Introduction

Boards

Boards are the primary way in which most users interact with the system and access the information that is important to them.

A Board is a configurable visual display comprised of Cards that pull data from other areas of KaiNexus.

Boards can:

  • Enable greater collaboration

  • Preserve the same layouts as your old physical boards

  • Increase engagement

  • House long-term knowledge

  • Keep executives in the loop

  • Improve meetings

  • Provide remote access

Boards can be nested under other Boards and can be private or shared with other people.

Board Icons

Each Board listed in the Boards menu or on the Manage Boards window will have one of the following Board icons.

Board Icon Icon Description
The globe icon The globe icon indicates public Boards that are visible to every user in the system.
The people icon The people icon indicates public Boards that are visible only to certain individual users or only to people with a specific Role or who are in a specific Location.
The single-person icon The single-person icon indicates private Boards that are only visible to you.
The folder icon The folder icon indicates Boards with no Cards. These Boards serve as placeholders under which related Boards can be nested.

The lock icon

The lock icon indicates Boards that you do not have permission to view. Such Boards will only appear on the Board menu if a Board you have permission to see is nested under them.

The eye-slash icon

The eye-slash icon indicates Boards that you have hidden from your Boards menu. Such Boards will only appear on the Manage Boards window.

The thumbtack icon
The thumbtack icon indicates Boards that you have pinned to the top level of your Boards menu.

Navigate between Boards

Typically, the first thing you see when you log into KaiNexus is your default Board.

You can switch between Boards via:

The Boards menu

Click Boards in the navigation bar at the top of the app to open the Boards menu. From there:

  • Click My Default Board to open your default Board.
  • Boards that are listed with a right caret icon have Boards nested under them. Hover over any such Board to expand the drop-down and see the Boards nested under it.
  • Boards that are listed with an info icon have a description. Hover over the info icon to see it.
  • Click a Board to open it. Note that:
    • If the Board has a lock icon, you do not have permission to view it.
    • If the Board has a folder icon, it has no Cards on it. You will only be able to view it if you have permission to add Cards to it.

The Manage Boards window

Two Line OfieOnly people with the "Create Boards" permission have access to the Manage Boards window.

Click Boards in the navigation bar at the top of the app to open the Boards menu. From there:

  • Click Manage Boards and the Manage Boards window will open to the "Shared" tab and all public Boards that you have permission to see will be listed.
    • To see your private Boards, click Private to change tabs.
  • Click a Board to open it. Note that:
    • If the Board has a lock icon, you do not have permission to view it.
    • If the Board has a folder icon, it has no Cards on it. You will only be able to view it if you have permission to add Cards to it.

Board breadcrumbs

Board breadcrumbs are displayed at the top left of a Board. Breadcrumbs show all nested Boards under the current Board, as well as other nested Boards under the parent Board.

To navigate via the breadcrumb:

  • Click the right caret icon to the right of a Board's name and a drop-down listing the Boards nested directly under it will open.
  • Click a Board to open it. Note that:
    • If the Board has a lock icon, you do not have permission to view it.
    • If the Board has a folder icon, it has no Cards on it. You will only be able to view it if you have permission to add Cards to it.

The search bar

If you know the name of the Board you want to see, enter it into the search bar and hit enter/return. A list of matching Items, Boards, and people will open. Locate the Board in the list, and click it to open it.

If the Board you're looking for isn't included in the search results, you may not have permission to view it.

Direct link

You can also navigate to a Board via a direct link from an email or from within KaiNexus — e.g. from a Nested Board List Card or a Freestyle Card.

If you follow the link and get a permissions error, you do not have permission to see that Board.

Ofie Profile PicPro Tip: You can share a link to a Board by copying the URL in your internet browser's address bar. This is a fully functional link that makes it easy to share Boards.
