Capacity Planning

What are Capacity Categories?

Learn about Capacity Categories and their configuration options.

Ofie Profile PicImportant: The features described on this support page require the Capacity Planning Module, which is currently in a closed BETA.

Capacity Categories allow you to group and review different types of capacity within your organization. Many organizations only need one Capacity Category; however, we allow for multiple Capacity Categories if you would like to track more than one type.

For example, you can have one type of capacity that tracks IT staff hours and another type of capacity that tracks how many initiatives CI leaders are managing.

Setting Up Capacity Categories

Ofie Profile PicPro Tip: Your Customer Success Manager will configure your Capacity Categories and add them to your Templates.

When you decide what Capacity Categories your organization needs, your Customer Success Manager will help you configure them in KaiNexus.

For each Capacity Category, you can select between two types of measurement:

  • Hours per Week allows you to set staff capacity to a specified number of hours per week.
  • Number of Items allows you to set staff capacity to a specified number of Items at a time.

Adding Capacity Categories to Templates

After the Capacity Categories for your organization are configured, you can decide on which Templates they will appear. You can choose:

  • Which Templates have Capacity Categories
  • How many Capacity Categories to include on each Template
  • Whether Capacity Tracking should be enabled by default on all Items of a Template Type
  • Which Team Roles, including Custom Team Roles, have Capacity Planning enabled for each Capacity Category on the Template

After your organization’s Capacity Categories have been created and added to at least one Template, you can start tracking capacity.
