How to Edit an Item’s Parent

A Parent Item is the Item that is one level above the current Item. Whether you are adding a new Parent to an Item that currently does not have a Parent or you are editing the current Parent on an Item, you can quickly do so within the Work Panel of an Item. Check out this support page for more information on nesting workflows within KaiNexus.

NOTE: An Item in KaiNexus can only have one Parent at a time.


Who can edit the Parent of an Item?

Only the following KaiNexus users may edit the Parent:

  • Anyone with the “Edit” permission for the current workflow type within that specified Network Location(s).

How do I edit the Parent?

Open the Item you wish to add/edit/remove the Parent on, then:

  • Click in the top right corner of the Item’s page.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, click .



In the resulting window, you can:

  • Click into the Parent field drop-down to add/remove/replace another Item in the system to be designated as the current Item’s Parent. 

NOTE: Depending on your Template Type and its configuration settings it is possible that some options may be unavailable as Parent Items in this drop-down. 


Reach out to your Customer Experience Lead if you need to make any adjustments to your Template’s Parent settings.
