Hierarchy View

Hierarchy View visualizes Items in a tree-like structure, showing parent-child relationships while highlighting the most impactful details for each Item.

Hierarchy View is one of seven ways to visualize Item Lists. It arranges Items in a tree-like structure with branches to show the child Items nested beneath each parent. Overall, it is a powerful way to view the relationships between Items.

Only the most essential information is displayed for each Item in Hierarchy View. By default, Hierarchy View will display the following Item Details:

  • Name: The Item's title and Template icon will appear at the top of the details.
    • Hover over the icon to view the Template's name.
  • Status: The Item's Status will be listed and indicated by the color of the bar on the left side of the Item.
  • Milestones: The current Milestone, if any, and the Milestone's Status will be listed.
  • Key dates: Each Item's last updated date and one additional key date will be listed. The extra key date is chosen based on the Item's current status. For example, the Due Dates of Active Items and the Completed Dates of Complete items will be shown.
  • Key people: The most important team role (as determined by the Item's Team Type and current Status) will be listed along with the users assigned to that role.

Ofie Profile PicPro Tip: You can customize which Item Details are displayed in Detail View by editing the Item List's View. Visit this support page to learn how.

Working with Hierarchy View

  • If an Item has nested Items, you will see a blue + icon beside it. Select it to reveal Items nested directly beneath the parent.

Ofie Profile PicPro Tip: An Item with other Items nested beneath it is called a "parent." The nested Items are its "children." By default, all of a parent's children are included in Hierarchy View. However, you can filter the list so that only certain children appear.

  • To collapse the Items in your List, hover over an Item with nested Items. A blue - icon will appear beside it. Select it to collapse all of the parent's nested Items.
  • Select any of the listed Items to open it.
  • To quickly update an Item without opening it, right-click its name.
    • Use the resulting Quick Edit drop-down to change the Item's status, edit its details, parent, Team, dates, or Locations, add a comment, archive the Item, or delete it.

Ofie Profile PicPro Tip: For more information on using the Quick Edit drop-down, check out this article.

  • To open an Item in a new tab on your browser, right-click its name, then click Open in a new tab in the resulting drop-down menu.
  • To copy the direct link to an Item, right-click its name, then click Copy Link. The link will be copied to your clipboard.

Configuring Hierarchy View

To configure how Items are represented in Hierarchy View:

  • Select the filter icon. If you do not see this option, you may need to select Filters first to reveal the filters.

Ofie Profile PicPro Tip: If you are working with an Item List Card, select the ellipsis icon and select Edit in the resulting drop-down menu to update the View Options.

  • In the resulting window, select the View Options header to expand it.
    • The Show Parents checkbox: When enabled, the parent of any Items that meet the filter requirements will be included on the list even if that parent does not meet the filter requirements itself.
    • The Show Children checkbox: When enabled, the children of any Items that meet the filter requirements will be included on the list even if those children do not meet the filter requirements themselves.
      • By default, when this checkbox is enabled, all children will be included in the list. To only include children of specific workflows, expand the Workflows drop-down to the right of the checkbox and select the Workflows that should be included.
    • The Filter Children checkbox: When enabled, a filter icon will appear next to the checkbox that you can use to control which children are included on the list.
      • Click the filter icon to open a new Item Filter window to filter the list of children.
    • Max: Enter the number of Items to appear on your List.
      • By default, the max is 50.
      • You cannot go above 250 Items.

Ofie Profile PicWarning: Hierarchy View only has one page of results. Some results will be excluded if the number of primary results in your Item List exceeds the Max.

    • Max Height: Set the maximum height for each Item card in the Hierarchy View. If an Item's details exceed this limit, the card will expand up to the maximum height, allowing you to scroll to view the remaining content.
