Who can edit a Chart?

How do I edit a Line/Bar Chart’s details?
Open the Chart you want to work with, then:
- Click
in the top right corner of the page.
- Click
in the resulting drop-down menu.
In the resulting window, you can:
- Edit the name of the Chart.
- Edit any fields and Attributes. The available sections will depend on the configuration of that Chart type as determined by your organization.
- Edit the parent - this is the item under which this Chart is nested. If you want this Chart to be stand-alone, leave the “Parent” field blank.
- Check the box next to “Make Private” to restrict access to this Chart to only people on its team or people with the "View Private" permission for Charts in this Location.
Leave this box unchecked to allow access to anyone with the “View” permission for Charts in this Location.
Click when you’re satisfied with the Chart’s details.
How do I edit a Line/Bar Chart’s data?
To edit a Line/Bar Chart, open the Chart you want to work with, then:
- Click
in the top right corner of the page.
- Click
in the resulting drop-down menu.
In the resulting window, make sure you're in the "Data" tab, then proceed.
Switch between Date or Category
If you want to switch the horizontal axis between Date and Category, then:
- Click
next to “Date” or “Category”
- In the resulting window, choose the option you prefer.
- Check the box next to “Use exact dates entered” to be more clearly define the date values that are displayed on the Chart.
NOTE: If this box is not checked, then the Chart will auto-calculate the best dates to display to create an even interval based on the dates you’ve entered.
- Check the box next to “Show time on chart” to have the time values entered under the Date column to be displayed on the Chart.
This gives you the ability to capture more than one data point for the same date.
Add a data series
If you want to add a new series, click .
In the resulting window, you can always:
- Enter the title of the series in the “Name:” field.
- (**Optional**) Enter a description.
- Under "Type," choose whether the series should be shown as a Line, a Bar, or a Threshold Line.
- Under "Appearance," customize the appearance of the series:
- Choose the color that should be used for the Bar or Line of this series.
- For a line series, choose how thicc you want the line to be on the chart.
(Line Width options range from 1-10) - For a line series, check "Dashed Line" if you want the series to be represented by a dashed line rather than a solid one."
- For a line series, check "Show Markers" if you want to display the data point markers on the line.
- For a line series, check “Fill” if you want to display a color fill on the chart space beneath the data series.
- Fill Color: Choose the color that should be used for the chart space beneath the data series.
- Fill Opacity: Choose the opacity percentage to adjust the visibility of the color.
- Fill Color: Choose the color that should be used for the chart space beneath the data series.
- Choose the color that should be used for the Bar or Line of this series.
- Under "Y-Axis," choose whether the series should be aligned with the left or right y-axis.
- Under "Annotation Appearance," pick the color that should be used to signify a data point with an Annotation.
- If you want this series to be a calculated series:
- Check the box next to "Calculated Series."
- Under the "Calculated Series" section, pick the operator and enter any relevant series. For more information on calculated series, check out this support page.
- Check the box next to "Calculated Series."
- If, instead, you want this series to be a shared data series, under "Shared Series:"
- Select the Chart from which you want to pull data in the “Chart” field.
- Select which series you want to pull from that Chart in the “Series” field.
- Select the Chart from which you want to pull data in the “Chart” field.
- Click
.
NOTE: The data of a calculated or shared series may not be visible at first. You will need to save the Chart for those values to be generated.
Edit an existing data series
To edit an existing data series, click next to the series's name. In the resulting window, customize the series as described above.
Import your data
If you want to quickly transfer data from an Excel spreadsheet into a KaiNexus Chart, consider using the Chart import function.
NOTE: You can use the import function to update data and add rows of data, but not to add new series or delete existing rows.

Add rows
You can add lots of rows at once by clicking .
In the resulting window:
- If you’re working with dates: enter a start date, end date, and step unit (day, week, or month). This will determine how many rows are added.
- If you’re working with categories: enter the number of rows you want to add.
- Click
.
If you just need to add a single row (or multiple rows, one at a time), click near the bottom of the Chart window.
Edit the Chart's advanced options
To edit the Chart's advanced options, click .
In the resulting window, you can configure the:
- X-Axis - You can enter the title that should be displayed under the X-Axis.
- Legend - You can pick where the legend should be displayed in relation to the Chart. Choose between positioning it to the top, left, bottom, or right of the Chart.
- Left Y-Axis - You can enter the title that should be displayed alongside the left Y-Axis.
You can enter the range that should always be displayed on the left Y-Axis. - Right Y-Axis - You can enter the title that should be displayed alongside the right Y-Axis.
You can enter the range that should always be displayed on the right Y-Axis. - Control Limits - You can set the lower, average, and upper control limits, as well as the color that should be used for each.
Check the box next to “Generate Flag” if a flag should be generated if the data is out of the control limit.
Check the box next to “Red Markers” if data points should be made red if data is out of control - markers must also be enabled on the series configuration screen. - Visible Date Range - You can set the date range that should be displayed on the Chart by default.
NOTE: If your Chart is using categories rather than dates, this option will not apply.
- Visible Series - You can hide certain series by default for anyone viewing the Chart by unchecking the box(es) next to each series' name(s). They will be able to toggle between "Show Series" and "Hide Series" if they want to see the hidden series now and again.
Click when you're done configuring the advanced options.
Add and edit data
Once you've added your rows, you can add individual data points. To do so, click on the appropriate column and row intersection, then enter the appropriate value.
When you're finished updating the Chart, click .
