The Kanban View

A Kanban board is a visualization tool that helps people understand the flow of their improvement work. KaiNexus provides a Kanban View so that you can quickly check in your work's progress.

What does the Kanban View show?

The Kanban View breaks down a list of items by status - each column contains all the relevant items of a particular status.

The same information for each item is shown on the Kanban View as would be shown on the Detail View, including the:

  • Full title

  • Workflow, indicated with the standard workflow icons to the left of the title.

  • Status

  • Key dates

  • Key team members

  • The Milestone(s) that need the most attention at this time

  • Parent's workflow (if the item is nested under some parent), indicated with the standard workflow icons in the bottom right corner of the item's listing.


Clicking any of the items in the list will open the item in a new module.

 

Accessing the Kanban View

First, click "Lists" in the left navigation bar.

The list will be displayed in the layout you last viewed it in. If the list is not already in the Kanban View:

  • Click 2018-02-22_1654.png at the top of the list.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, click 2018-02-27_1316.png.


To control which status columns should be shown in the Kanban View:

  • Click 2018-02-22_1654.png at the top right corner of the Kanban View under your profile image.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, hover over 2018-03-26_1502.png.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, check the box next to any status you want to include in the Kanban View and uncheck the box next to any status you don't want to include.

Filtering the Kanban View

The quick filter

The quick filter is the blue bar at the top of the list of items that reads something like "Org - All" - depending on which filter is being applied.

Click this bar to open a drop-down menu of all the possible quick filters. There are several tiers to the drop-down menu. The first tier includes:

  • Mine - All items for which you are a team member.

  • My Organization - All items in the organization that you have permission to view.

  • My Location - All items in your Location(s) that you have permission to view.

  • My Lists - Any custom filtered lists that you've created and saved previously.


Hovering over any of those options will open the second tier which includes qualifiers like:

  • Items which have been flagged for your attention.

  • Items which you have previously bookmarked.

  • Your relationship to the item.

  • The item's status.


Hovering over any of those options will open the third tier which lets you decide which workflows should be returned. Choose between:

  •  All - Return all relevant items that you have permission to view, regardless of which workflow they are.

  • Projects - Return only relevant Projects that you have permission to view.

  • Improvements - Return only relevant Improvements that you have permission to view.

  • Tasks - Return only relevant Tasks that you have permission to view.

  • Charts - Return only relevant Charts that you have permission to view.

 

Advanced Filters

If you want to add more types of filters and combinations of filters, you can use the advanced filters. To do so:

  • Click 2018-02-22_1654.png at the top right corner of the Kanban View under your profile image.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, click 2018-02-27_1259.png.

  • Add any filters you'd like in the resulting window.

  • When you're finished, click 2018-02-27_1301.png.

 

Switch to another view

You can switch to any of the other views if you want to get different information at a glance.


To switch to the List View:

  • Click 2018-02-22_1654.png at the top right corner of the Kanban View under your profile image.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, click 2018-02-27_1314.png.

To switch to the Detail View:

  • Click 2018-02-22_1654.png at the top right corner of the Kanban View under your profile image.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, click 2018-02-27_1234.png.

To switch to the Tree View:

  • Click 2018-02-22_1654.png at the top right corner of the Kanban View under your profile image.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, click 2018-02-27_1315.png.

To switch to the Gantt View:

  • Click 2018-02-22_1654.png at the top right corner of the Kanban View under your profile image.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, click 2018-02-27_1316_001.png.

View the total impact of all the items in the list

If you want to know the total impact of every item in the list, you don't have to open each one and add it up. Just open the Impact window and the system will do it for you! To do so:

  • Click 2018-02-22_1654.png to the right of the Item Search bar under the quick filter.

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, click 2018-02-27_1322.png.

The Impact Summary pulls impact data from every Improvement on the list. If a Project is on the list but the Improvements nested under it are not, the Impact Summary will include the data from each of those Improvements.

The Impact Summary gives you the total breakdown of the list's impact, including:

  • The total cost savings, revenue generation, and time savings are displayed at the top of the page. Hover over the underlined values to see a further breakdown for each.

  • The "Outcome Donut" is the green and gray ring on the left side of the page. Clicking the gray segment will cause the "Impact Bars" on the right side of the page to display the no change reasons. Clicking the green segment will cause the bars to display the change outcomes.

    NOTE: Depending on your organization's configuration, there may also be a dark grey segment on the donut. Clicking that segment will cause the bars to display the third option outcomes.

    The donut also displays the percentage of Improvements that resulted in a change.

  • Beneath the donut, the total number of completed Improvements in the list is displayed. Click that number to open a list of all relevant completed Improvements.

  • As mentioned above, the right side of the page is taken up by the "Impact Bars." Every impact/change outcome and no change reason will be displayed with its own bar showing how many Improvements were resolved with that impact.

    Click any of those bars to open a list of all relevant Improvements which resulted in that impact. 

    NOTE: If the bar says that 14 Improvements resulted in that impact but you don't have permission to access 3 of them, only 11 Improvements will be shown when you click the bar. If you don't have permission to view any of them, none will be shown.

  • Beneath the bars, the total number of Improvements that resulted in a change or in no change (depending on the donut's setting) will be displayed. Click that number to open a list of all relevant Improvements that resulted in either a change or in no change.
