How to Copy a Project

You can quickly make a copy of a Project. This is perfect for when you are doing the same Project in a bunch of different locations.

Who can copy a Project?

To copy a Project, you must have both permission to access the Project and to create that type of Project.

NOTE: If the Project is nested under another Project, you must be a member of that parent Project's team.

What happens when I copy a Project?

  • The copy will be in the "Draft" status.

  • You will be made its Facilitator.

The following information will automatically be copied:

  • Title

  • Parent Project

  • Fields

  • Attachments

  • Links

  • Whether the Project is Private or not

You also have the option of copying all of its nested Charts, Tasks, Projects, and Improvements.

NOTE: Only Improvements and Projects nested directly under this Project will be copied. That is, an Improvement nested under a Project nested under the Project you are copying will not be copied.

  • Copied Projects will be in the "Draft" status with the copier entered as the Facilitator

  • Copied Improvements will be in the "Draft" status with the copier entered as the Author

  • Copied Charts will be in the "Draft" status with the copier entered as the Author.

  • Copied Tasks will be moved into the "Draft" status with the copied entered as the Author

Additionally, you can choose to convert the newly copied Item into an Item of a different Template Type. This will follow all of the rules of copying mentioned above and create the copied Item which will then give you the option to convert it to a new Template Type.

How do I Copy a Project?

Open the Project you wish to copy, then:

  • (**Optional**) Check the box next to “Copy nested items” to include copies of the Items nested under this Project.

NOTE: Only the first 100 nested Items will be copied.

    • Select how many levels down within the nested Items you want to bring over when copying.

      • Selecting “One Level” will only bring over the Items that are directly nested under the Item you are currently copying.

      • Selecting “All Levels” will bring over all of the nested Items, several levels deep, that are nested under the Item you are currently copying.

    • Select whether you want to copy all types of nested Items or not.

      • Selecting “Yes” will bring over all types of nested Items under this Project, like Projects, Improvements, Incidents, Tasks, or Charts.

      • Selecting “No” will give you the option to check boxes next to the types of nested Items you want to bring over to the new copy.

    • Select whether you want to copy all types of nested Items or not within the subsequent levels of this Project.

      • Selecting “Yes” will bring over all types of nested Items under Items that are nested beneath this Project, like Projects, Improvements, Incidents, Tasks, or Charts.

      • Selecting “No” will give you the option to check boxes next to the types of nested Items you want to bring over to the new copy.

  • Check the box next to “I understand this cannot be undone.”

  • Click Copy__blue_.png to create a new copy of your Item(s).

  • Click Copy_and_Convert.png to create a new copy of your Item(s) and then convert your newly copied Project into a different Template Type.
