How to Copy a Project

You can quickly make a copy of a Project. This is perfect for when you are doing the same Project in a bunch of different locations.

Who can copy a Project?

To copy a Project, you must have both permission to access the Project and to create that type of Project.

NOTE: If the Project is nested under another Project, you must be a member of that parent Project's team.

What happens when I copy a Project?

  • The copy will be in the "Draft" status.

  • You will be made its Facilitator.

The following information will automatically be copied:

  • Title

  • Parent Project

  • Fields

  • Attachments

  • Links

  • Whether the Project is Private or not

You also have the option of copying its nested Charts, Tasks, Projects, and Improvements. You can specify:

  • How many levels of nested items should be copied: one level or all levels

  • Whether all types of first-level nested items (Projects, Improvements, Charts, and Tasks) should be copied

  • Whether all types of nested items (Projects, Improvements, Charts, and Tasks) in subsequent levels should be copied

Additionally, you can choose to convert the newly copied Item into an Item of a different Template Type. This will follow all of the rules of copying mentioned above and create the copied Item which will then give you the option to convert it to a new Template Type.

How do I Copy a Project?

Open the Project you wish to copy, then:

  • Click the ellipsis button in the top right corner of the page

  • In the resulting drop-down menu, click 'Copy'

In the resulting window:

  • Enter the name of the new copy in the “Name” field.

  • (**Optional**) Check the box next to “Copy Team” to add the original item’s Team to the new copy. The copied Item and all of its nested items will be affected by this decision.

  • (**Optional**) Check the box next to “Copy nested items” to include copies of the Items nested under this Project.

NOTE: Only the first 100 nested Items will be copied.

    • Choose how many levels of nested items should be copied

      • Selecting “One Level” will only bring over the Items that are directly nested under the Item you are currently copying.

      • Selecting “All Levels” will bring over all of the nested Items, several levels deep, that are nested under the Item you are currently copying.

    • Choose whether all types of nested items should be copied

      • Selecting “Yes” will bring over all types of nested Items under this Project, like Projects, Improvements, Incidents, Tasks, or Charts.

      • Selecting “No” will give you the option to check boxes next to the types of nested Items you want to bring over to the new copy.

    • Choose whether all types of nested Items within the subsequent levels of this Project should be copied

      • Selecting “Yes” will bring over all types of nested Items under Items that are nested beneath this Project, like Projects, Improvements, Incidents, Tasks, or Charts.

      • Selecting “No” will give you the option to check boxes next to the types of nested Items you want to bring over to the new copy.

  • Check the box next to “I understand this cannot be undone.”

  • Click 'Copy' to create a new copy of your Item(s).

  • Click 'Copy and Convert' to create a new copy of your Item(s) and then convert your newly copied Project into a different Template Type.

NOTE: See Convert a Project for additional information on the converting process.
