Change the default List settings for your organization

Customize columns for Item and People Lists and set a default density for new Lists in the platform.

When you create Item and People Lists in KaiNexus, specific columns appear by default. These default columns can be customized to display information essential to your organization, saving time and providing people with relevant information quickly.

In addition, Item Lists have a default density setting: Comfortable or Compact. Comfortable density is easier to read and Compact helps you fit more information on the List. If your organization tends to utilize one option over another, then you can ensure all new Item Lists are created with your preferred setting. 

Your organization's default Item List settings will appear on all new: 

  • Custom Lists
  • Item List Cards
  • Nested Item Lists
  • Item Lists opened from Reports and Widgets

Your organization's default People List settings will appear in the People section and on all new: 

  • People Lists
  • People List Cards
  • People Lists opened from Reports and Widgets

Who can change your organization's default Item List settings?

Anyone with the "System Administrator" permission can access the General administration page and update the default Item List settings. 

Change the default Item List settings for your organization

To customize your organization's default Item List settings, navigate to the Admin section and select General beneath the System header. 

  • Scroll down to the Item Lists header.
  •  Customize Item List Columns: If the Enable checkbox is not already selected, select the checkbox. The option to Edit Columns will appear on the right. 
    • Select Edit Columns
    • In the resulting window, you can customize the list of existing default columns.
       
      • Use the Search for Columns bar to add new columns. 
      • Hover over a column and select the x icon to remove it. 
      • To customize the width of any column, enter a number of pixels in the Min Width or Max Width columns beside the appropriate column name. 
      • You can reset the columns to the system default anytime by selecting Reset Columns to Default

Ofie Profile PicPro Tip: Default Item List columns are applicable to List, Tree, and Gantt View. 

  • Default Density: Toggle between Comfortable and Compact to determine which density option should be the default for new Item Lists. 
  • Select Save

All new Item Lists will include your default Item List settings. Any Item Lists will  You should sign out and back in to see your changes take effect. 

Ofie Profile PicPro Tip: Changing your organization's default Item List columns will not affect existing Lists with modified columns, and changing the density setting will not affect any existing Item Lists. 

Change the default People List columns for your organization

To customize your organization's default People List settings, navigate to the Admin section and select General beneath the System header.

  • Scroll down to the People Lists header.
  •  Customize People List Columns: If the Enable checkbox is not already selected, select the checkbox. The option to Edit Columns will appear on the right. 
    • Select Edit Columns
    • In the resulting window, you can customize the list of existing default columns.
       
      • Use the Search for Columns bar to add new columns. 
      • Hover over a column and select the x icon to remove it. 
      • To customize the width of any column, enter a number of pixels in the Min Width or Max Width columns beside the appropriate column name. 
      • Remove all the current columns by selecting Clear Columns
      • You can reset the columns to the system default (User Details and Network Location) anytime by selecting Reset Columns to Default

The People section and all new People Lists will include your default columns. Any People List with previously modified columns will maintain those settings.

You should sign out and back in to see your changes take effect.
