3.x Release Notes

3.0.5 Release Notes

August 12, 2022

It may be August, but we did some Spring Cleaning in this Release! KaiNexus 3.0.5 introduces several new features aimed to reduce screen clutter and unnecessary clicking. Along with these new features, we made a plethora of minor UI enhancements and cleanups throughout the platform and added some improvements to Statuses, Teams, and Shared Lists.

3.0.5 Release Highlights

  • Quick Create. Meeting with your team and need to capture several action items quickly? No sweat! You can now use the new + Quick Create button (located in the bottom left corner of a Nested Item List panel) to easily create new Items nested within the Parent Item.
  • Inline Editing on Item Lists. You can now edit Items directly from an Item List! In List, Tree, and Gantt view, cells you can edit show up in gray when hovered over, and your pointer changes to a traditional text-editing cursor. Simply select a cell to start editing it!
  • Date Quick Filters for Lists and Boards. Being able to quickly filter Lists and Boards by dates was one of the most requested use cases for Quick Filters, so you now can add all of the available Date Filters from the Item Filter to all Quick Filters!
  • New Look for Board and List Date Filter Calendars. We liked how the new date selector calendar from the new Date Quick Filters feature looked so much that we updated the calendars everywhere on the platform to match.
  • Status Picker Changes. Status Picker labels now align with the Item Statuses in Kanban, making selecting a Status more intuitive. Additionally, you can now add Customizable Tooltips to the Status Picker, globally or per Template, giving you freedom to explain the Statuses to your Users in your organization’s own internal terminology.
  • Key Dates and Key People Columns. Depending on an Item's team type and/or status, there are certain dates or Team Roles that people are most interested in seeing. Knowing this, we created a pair of “smart columns” called Key Dates and Key People that automatically show the most important dates and people for that Item in that Status in Gantt, List, and Tree view.
  • “Team Roles” Columns. When you look at a person's Activity from their User Profile, you’ll now see their “User’s Team Role” for each of the Items, without having to click into each Item, and you can add a “My Team Roles” column to any List to track your own participation on Items.
  • Shared Lists Improvements. We renamed the "View Lists" permission to "Create Item Lists" to match what the permission now does, and Users who have a List shared with them now receive an email notification and will see a blue notification dot in their Items section.

Improvements

FILTERS

  • Date Quick Filters for Lists and Boards. Being able to quickly filter Lists and Boards by dates was one of the most requested use cases for Quick Filters, so you now can add all of the available Date Filters from the Item Filter to all Quick Filters. This allows Users to more easily filter Boards and Lists for different time ranges without having to use the Item Filter. Hovering over the Date Quick Filter displays an "x" option you can select to clear the date range right from the filter, without having to go back into the date selector.
  • New Look for Board and List Date Filter Calendars. We liked how the new date selector calendar from the new Date Quick Filters feature looked so much that we updated the calendars everywhere on the platform to match.

REPORTS

  • Improvements to Fiscal Year Reporting. To prevent Last/Current Filters on Reports with Intervals displaying extraneous date ranges, we’ve redefined how fiscal years are named, with Fiscal date Intervals now defined by the last day within the date range.

LISTS

  • Key Dates and Key People Columns. Depending on an Item's team type and/or status, there are certain dates or Team Roles that people are most interested in seeing. Knowing this, we created a pair of “smart columns” called Key Dates and Key People that automatically show the most important dates and people for that Item in that Status in Gantt, List, and Tree view. This provides key information about Items in a List while taking up drastically less space on your screen.

These smart columns can be inline-edited directly from the Item List, and hovering over the Key People and Key Dates columns shows all of the corresponding People or Dates related to the Item.
  • Quick Create. Meeting with your team and need to capture several action items quickly? No sweat! You can now use the new + Quick Create button (located in the bottom left corner of a Nested Item List panel) to easily create new Items nested within the Parent Item. Selecting this button displays a dropdown menu with options for which kinds of Items you can create to nest in the List. Quick Create can be enabled in List view only.
  • Inline Editing on Item Lists. You can now edit Items directly from an Item List! In List view, Tree view, and Gantt view, cells you can edit show up in gray when hovered over, and your pointer changes to a traditional text-editing cursor. Selecting the Item’s name still opens it, and you can change the name by selecting the pencil icon that displays when you hover over it. We found that Inline Editing is more intuitive to users and provides a seamless experience when editing information.
  • “Team Roles” Columns. When you look at a person's Activity from their User Profile, you’ll now see their Team Role for each of the Items without having to click into each Item, and you can also create a My Team Roles column to track your level of participation on Items in your own Lists. Team Roles columns are not yet exportable.
  • Gantt View has been expanded to display 100 primary results instead of 50.
  • Saving an Item List by clicking “Save List as” from an Item List window will close the current window and automatically redirect you to the newly created Item List in the Items section.
  • Kanban and Gantt views now respect the “Show/Hide Count” setting when exported to PDF.
  • The optional "Nested Item Status Bar" column in Lists no longer counts Archived Items in its visualization.
  • Selecting the plus (+) icon at the top-right of an Item List now displays a similar streamlined dropdown Item creation menu as Quick Create. Selecting an option from this new dropdown still takes you to the full Create window.
  • When hovering over a column header on an Item List, the cursor changes to indicate that the column can be moved.
  • Dragging and dropping column order in an Item List now marks the List as Edited, and selecting Discard Changes reverts the column order to the previous state.
  • Added a new Remove Column option when selecting the drop-down menu from a column header.
  • Shared Lists Permission Label Change. Now that Shared Lists exist, certain Users can view Lists shared with them but cannot create their own Lists. We updated the previous “View Lists” permission to “Create Item Lists” to make clear what this permission does now.
  • Shared Lists are now marked by a Blue Dot in your Items section. Users who have had a List shared with them will now see a blue dot on the Items section, signaling to them that there is something new they have not yet seen. The blue dots will guide them to where the newly shared List is located within their Items section and will disappear once the newly-shared List has been viewed.
  • Email Notifications when Item Lists are Shared. If a List is being shared with an individual it is highly likely that the information in that List is important. Therefore, we wanted to have a way to notify the person that a List has been shared with them to prompt them to log into the platform to view it. When you share a list with someone, they’ll get an email with a link to the List and information on their permission level (Viewer/Editor/Owner) for that list.

ITEMS

  • Status Picker Changes. Status Picker labels now align with the Item Statuses in Kanban, making selecting a Status more intuitive. Make New is now labeled as New, Resolve is now Complete, Assign is Active, Activate is also Active, Plan is now Planned, and Defer has been changed to Deferred.

Additionally, you can now add Customizable Tooltips to the Status Picker, giving you freedom to explain the Statuses to your Users in your organization’s own internal terminology. Global tooltip customization is found in the Admin section under System > Tooltip Customization or you can work with your Customer Success Manager to customize the tooltips for a specific Template..
  • Quick Actions. If there are any actions you frequently use on a particular Item Template (such as Print or Convert), you can now add those actions to the Template header as buttons. No longer do you have to find the specific action you need buried in the Actions dropdown menu! Reach out to your CSM to take advantage of this feature.
  • Participants on a Team now indicate Offline or Setup status in the Team panel, just like the other Team Roles do.
  • Selecting "View Activity" on a User’s profile will no longer show Items they are only a Follower on, since this doesn’t reflect what the User is working on.
  • Archived Workflows now appear in the Workflow filter dropdowns in Reports, Item Filters, Quick Filters, etc.

EXCEL / PDF

  • Exporting an item list to PDF no longer results in an extra blank page at the end.
  • Added support for "Language" on user profiles on Excel imports/exports.

TRANSLATION

  • Dates throughout the platform now display the correct month and week names in other languages, based on the Language Codes configured.

API

  • Paging in JSON API calls. To avoid system locks, timeouts, and long wait times for results, we added Paging for API calls to let them retrieve a larger set of data one page at a time. Item API requests are now limited to 30,000 and User API requests limited to 20,000. This also allows calls to go over the current limit of a single page of Users or Items.
