3.0.3 Release Highlights

Wow! Was that a cat I saw? A car, a man, a maraca? No, it’s 3.0.3, the first release palindrome we’ve had since 2.5.2—yay! To level up your KaiNexus functionality, put these 3.0.3 highlights on your radar

  • Goodbye Markdown, hello HTML! Or should we say, <b> Goodbye Markdown, hello HTML! </b> From Fields and Comments to Freestyle Cards and Login Notices, text areas throughout KaiNexus will now include an HTML Formatting Toolbar. With more powerful formatting options, HTML allows you to easily format text and insert images (and tables!) directly inside these areas.
  • The Board Location Filter is helpful when you need it, but can take up valuable Board space when not in use. Now, the Board Location Filter will remember whether you had it expanded or collapsed the last time you were on the Board.
  • Drag and drop Items between status columns in Kanban View to update the status of the Item. You’ll save so much time by not having to click into an Item to change its status that you’ll be tempted to run a Time Savings Impact Report on the power of Kanban drag and drop!
  • You know how you can change the View Type of a Card and expand a Card to get more visual real estate? Now those functions work in conjunction! Set a default View Type for the expanded version of a Card, independent of the Card’s regular View Type. For example, a Card in Detail View can be expanded to display the same Items but in Gantt View, providing more meaning to your data.
  • New functionality has been added to an Item List, allowing you to quickly save a List or enable AutoSave to keep a list of Items up-to-date. If AutoSave is enabled, any changes made to the Item Filter or columns on that List will initiate a save. Unhappy with the changes you’ve made? Select “Reset to Default” to start your List over!
  • When assigning a Team Role, the newly-added Quick Filters and User Filter help you find the right person for the Team. Not sure who to pick? Use the filters to specify a Location, Persona, Badge, etc. to choose from a List of Users who fit that criteria.

P.S. Here’s a perfect palindrome for Lean enthusiasts: “A Toyota’s a Toyota!

Improvements

BOARDS

  • The “Promote” action got a promotion; it will now be called “Pin”! Pin a Board to give it visibility in the Board drop-down menu for easy navigation. Use the Unpin action to remove it from the Boards drop-down menu.
  • By default, the Board Location Filter will respect User preference, allowing you to choose whether or not you want to see the Location Filter expanded or collapsed by default on each Board.

CARDS

  • If you can see a Card, you can export that Card! Head to the ellipses icon of a Card to save that individual Card as an.XLXS file or PDF—you can even print it out!
  • Set a default View Type for the expanded version of a Card, independent of the Card’s regular View Type. For example, a Card in Detail View can be expanded to display the same Items but in Gantt View, providing more meaning to your data.
  • “Off with her head!” cried the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland while our customers cried “Off with Card Headers!” for the 3.0.3 release. Use the “Hide Header” option on a Card to display more content within the Card and avoid visual clutter.
  • Cards in a Stack will no longer display tooltips when hovering over the title of the Card.

CHARTS

  • Users can now select from and edit several formatting options for their Chart Data Series. Set a number format, currency, and percentage to more accurately and cleanly display the data in your desired format.

FILTERS

  • The strength of KaiNexus comes from our powerful filtering capabilities, with distinct criteria for both Items and Users alike. In an effort to boost visibility and distinction between Item and User Filters, any time a filter is available, it will clearly be labeled “Item Filter” or “User Filter”.
  • Within the Item Filter, “Item” is new filter criteria which allows you to build a List of adhoc Items.
  • KaiNexus Users can be defined by one of our five Personas: KaiNexus Champion, CI Coach, Executive, Leader, and Frontline User. But, what if you don’t have a Persona on your User profile yet? Use the “No Persona” filter criteria on the User Filter to find all Users in your organization in need of a Persona!

FRAMEWORK

  • Text areas throughout KaiNexus will now include a Formatting Toolbar. With more powerful formatting options in Fields, Comments, Freestyle Cards, and the Login Notice, the Formating Toolbar allows you to easily format text and insert images (and more!) directly inside these areas.

ITEMS

  • Easily calculate the Impact of an Item by selecting “Impact by Item” from the Reports button on Items.
  • To help you anticipate and better plan future improvement work, we added a Deferred Item’s “Review by” date to the Detail View of an Item List.
  • Hovering over the Template Icon on an Item's work panel will now display the Template name, Workflow(s) it is associated with, and the Team Type of the Template.

LISTS

  • Drag and drop Items between status columns in Kanban View to update the status of the Item. Pro tip—an error message will appear if an Item is not able to move into that status (as restricted by the Template) or if the User does not have permission to change the status of the Item.
  • When working with a saved List of Items, you can easily edit the title of the List by clicking on its name.
  • Ready to start from scratch with your Custom List columns? Select “Reset Columns to Default” to restore the List’s default columns.
  • Lastly, right-click on a List to Edit, Pin, or Delete the List!

MULTI-LANGUAGE

  • Each release, we’re chipping away at expanding the translatable areas of KaiNexus. In 3.0.3, we added more translatable elements, focusing on buttons, drop-down menus, and the Navigation Bar.

PDF/XLSX

  • In 3.0.2, we introduced the ability to set default print settings for a Board. Building off that functionality, you can now include or exclude specific Cards from printing as part of the default print settings. For example, you can choose to exclude printing a Nested Boards Card with hyperlinks to other Boards.
  • We also added the ability to include or exclude specific work panels on an Item page when defining a Template’s default print settings. For example, you can choose to exclude panels with links and file attachments.
  • The print dialog modal will no longer automatically appear on screen when selecting Print/Save as PDF. Once the print preview appears, Users can now select Print to bring up this screen.

REPORTS

  • For “Impact by” Reports in Bowling View, the “Target” row is now above “Forecast” row as Target Impact is often defined before the Forecast Impact is entered.

ROLES

  • When defining System Role permissions and customizing Notification preferences, you can now select to include all Workflows rather than manually selecting all Workflows within the dropdown menu.

TEAM

  • Let’s hype simplifying Team Type! After some renaming, Simple Assign is now simply Simple Team, Complex Assign is now Standard Team, Non-Assignable is now Advanced Team, and Author-Only is the only Team name that didn’t change.
  • When assigning a Team Role, the newly-added User Search feature helps you find the right person for the Team. Use the filters to specify a Location, Persona, Badge, etc. to choose from a List of Users who fit that criteria.

UI

  • As part of another round of UI enhancements, you’ll notice a new look and feel to the font type throughout the platform. Jakarta Sans is in line with our User Interface redesign, creating a cleaner, more simplified experience.

USER PROFILE

  • The Superuser User Type has been retired and all pre-existing Superusers are now General Users. With this merge, permissions are no longer inherited or suppressed based on User Type; instead, permissions are based entirely on a User’s System Role.
  • Get to know your teammates! Hover over a User to reveal a tooltip with an abbreviated version of that User’s profile.

Bugs

  • When adding a Chart Card, the "Create" button included all Templates, not just Templates with Charts. More intuitively, it will now only show the option to create Templates with Charts.
  • We fixed a bug that caused Groups to not function properly when signing in with SSO.
  • Previously, an error occurred when printing an Item with an Author-Only Team that did not have any Chart data. Rest assured, you can now print Items of any Team Type without any data requirements!
  • We fixed a bug that prevented printing certain Charts.
  • If a Chart was added to the text area of an Item, a broken image icon would appear for Users who did not have permission to view the Chart. That’s fixed now!
  • We fixed a bug that caused errors when printing certain Boards.
  • Items with blank tabs appeared as blank checkboxes when printed or saved as a PDF. We checked off fixing that bug!
  • For default Item Lists, the Status column did not appear at the far left side of the by default, but will now respect that default order.
  • It was a tight squeeze for additional tooltip information at the bottom of an Edit Board window, but now there’s ample room to see all that helpful information!
  • We fixed a bug that cleared dependencies when re-planning a Planned Item.
