2.x Release Notes

2.5.3 Release Notes

June 18, 2021

Release Highlights

The official start of summer is just around the corner for the northern hemisphere, and we’re ready to splash into the pool of enhancements and improvements that version 2.5.3 brings to KaiNexus. We shore can’t wait to seas the day and dive into Superbadges, KaiNexus Streaks, and more!

  • Our new Superbadges are awarded based on Badges previously earned in the system. For example, you could create Badges for submitting 100 Improvements, signing off on 50 Milestones, and resolving 75 Projects. Once a User has earned all three of those Badges, they could then unlock a KaiNexpert Superbadge!
  • Continuous improvement, at its core, is an ongoing, adaptive process. Now, Users can earn a Badge for their dedication to continuous improvement with Streaks. Streaks track the number of days, weeks, or months in a row you’ve performed an action in KaiNexus and incentivize interaction within the system.
  • KaiNexus now offers in-app and email notifications to let Users know they’re on a streak, as well as notifications to warn Users they must take action in order to maintain their Badge. This is a great way to encourage engagement!
  • What could be better than the peace of mind that comes from clearing your notifications? Why, earning a Badge for it, of course! Stay up-to-date by marking your notifications as read or clearing them out, then display that reward like a badge of honor!
  • Are you someone who prefers the full KaiNexus browser experience or the quick convenience of the KaiNexus Mobile App? Either way, you can now earn Badges based on using KaiNexus via a browser, the Mobile App, or both!
  • This release debuts the new Board Timeline feature, which shows a detailed history of changes made to a specific Board. With this feature, you can see exactly what change was made, who it was made by, and when it happened.
  • Thanks to feedback from our most proficient Lean experts, we’ve added cause categories to our Fishbone diagrams. With a boosted UI experience, easily set categories, add a problem, and add causes for any Fishbone that is created.

💡 Improvements 💡

BADGES

  • We’re wearing our Badge improvements like a badge of honor. 2.5.3 UI updates bring improvements to the way we display Badges in KaiNexus. Check out your User Profile and View Badges to see all the Badges you’ve earned, as well as the Badges you can work toward!
  • New Badge Types allow you to group similar Badges and filter for them. For example, if you have Badges for Yellow Belt, Green Belt, and Black Belt Certifications, you can customize a Badge type called “Six Sigma Certifications” or “Karate Progress” to group those Badges.
  • Want to make sure you never lose one of your hard-earned Badges? We can configure an in-app/email notification to warn Users they must take action to maintain their Badge before it expires. Let’s keep that improvement streak going strong!
  • By default, the Badge email notification will now include the subject, User’s name, and Badge icon in the body of the email.
  • While we are excited to cool off from the Texas heat with our seasonal summer storms, we want to spare everyone from a flood of notifications. If you’ve earned a lot of Badges (good for you!) since the last time you logged in, you’ll get one login notice highlighting the highest priority Badge.
  • We at KaiNexus love the concept of “Inbox Zero.” Stay up-to-date by marking your notifications as read or clearing them out and earn a Badge for all that hard work.
  • We also love a good streak! Well, we love it when we’re on an improvement streak, that is. Streaks track the number of days in a row you’ve performed an action in KaiNexus and incentivize interaction within the system. Earn a Badge for maintaining those streaks!
  • Not sure if you’re on a streak yet? 2.5.3 brings us in-app and email notifications to let Users know they’re on a streak.
  • Superbadges are awarded based on Badges previously earned in the system. For example, you could create Badges for submitting 100 Improvements, signing off on 50 Milestones, and resolving 75 Projects. Once a User has earned all three of those Badges, then could then unlock a KaiNexpert Superbadge!
  • With the Badges Module, choose whether a User earns an activity-based Badge based on actions via a browser (on a computer/phone/tablet), the Mobile App, or both!

BOARDS

  • With the Board Timeline feature, you can see exactly what change was made to a Board, who it was made by, and when it happened.
  • Bulk Change actions for Manage Boards will also display on the Board Timeline, including the following actions: Change Parent, Change Restrict Viewing to ,Change Editor(s), Change Subscriber(s), Change Location(s), and Change Owner.

EMAILS

  • When an Item or User Excel import is complete, the current User performing the import will receive an email to inform if the import was successful. In the event that the import was unsuccessful, the email will also include a list of error messages.

FILTERS

  • Curious to know how many improvements your organization has submitted via the KaiNexus Mobile App? The Advanced Item Filter now allows you to filter by Device type.

FISHBONE

  • Thanks to feedback from our most proficient Lean experts, we’ve added cause categories to our Fishbone diagrams. With a boosted UI experience, easily set categories, add a problem, and add causes for any Fishbone that is created.
  • Fishbone is now supported on PDFs of Custom Layout Templates.

FRAMEWORK

  • Setup Users can now be added to the Team of any Item, allowing you to import new Items with Setup users on the Team. Once those Users are activated (via switching them to Superuser, General, or Capture Users) they are already on the Team of those Items, jumpstarting their improvement journey!

PDF/XLXS

  • Privacy, please! When printing and saving a Board as a PDF, you now have the option to "Exclude Private Items." If enabled, any Private Items within Item List Cards will not be included in the PDF. This does not apply to Item Lists in Gantt View.
  • When generating a PDF, column sizes specified by Min/Max Width in List and Tree Views will carry over to the PDF.

🐛 Fixed Bugs 🐛

  • Sharing is caring! We fixed a bug that occurred when trying to add new rows to the Chart, causing existing rows to disappear. Now all Chart rows can share the data spotlight!
  • Fish are slippery creatures, and sometimes added Items would slip and slide right off the Fishbone! We brushed our diagrams with a honey garlic glaze to boost Item stickiness, and to achieve the perfect sear.
  • We boosted performance for loading the Admin Timeline. Now, it won’t time out (even if you haven’t set a date filter).
  • We were granted the opportunity to fix a bug that prevented Users from updating Grantable Roles, and we certainly won’t take that for granted!
  • In an attempt to reduce “Waiting,” one of the 8 Wastes of Lean Manufacturing, we boosted login time performance. Let’s get you into KaiNexus, STAT!
  • Custom Date Fields were off by an hour when exporting an Item to PDF. It’s about time we get with the times.
  • It’s sync or swim, and in this case, our Originating and Responsible Locations weren’t syncing. So, we swam ahead and fixed a bug that occurred when creating a new Item as a User tied to multiple Locations. If that User selected only one Location as the Originating Location, the Item would still show multiple Responsible Locations. Now, it’s a one-to-one sync.
  • We fixed a bug that caused the wrong tooltip to display when hovering over bars on a Chart.
  • We fixed a bug where some Threshold Chart colors weren’t honoring color changes when meeting or falling beneath a Threshold.
  • Escalation Tiers with “Respect Network Configuration” checked will now properly account for User Locations and Permissions.
  • Items that were being imported with a “Completed” Status seemed to feel like their time in KaiNexus was, well, completed, thus sending them into the great realm beyond. Now, Status must be included in the Excel file import and must match a Status in KaiNexus. If the text does not match or is left blank, there will be an error message to guide you.
  • Items listed in the Subscriptions emails were blue and underlined thus appearing like links, but weren't actually linked. Now you can easily jump straight to an Item within KaiNexus by clicking the corresponding link in the Subscriptions email!
  • When exporting a list of items, values using an ampersand (&) were broken. We fixed that.
  • We fixed a bug where Escalation Locations didn’t appear when switching between Escalation Tiers, forcing you to click back out of the Item you wished to escalate, then re-open the Item to ensure it got escalated to the correct area.
  • We fixed a bug where the "Based on Location Panel" checkbox didn’t appear until the Item List Card was saved for the first time.
  • We fixed a bug for Item Lists that didn’t have “Wrap Text” enabled and were displaying exaggerated heights for columns with Links.
