Employee Types

To get to this page, navigate to the Admin page by clicking on the left sidebar menu, look under the Users heading, and click "Employee Types." The admin page is only accessible by administrators; only Global User Administrators can perform the functions detailed on this support page.

 

What is an Employee Type?

An Employee Type is any attribute which describes the terms of a person’s employment.

For example, you may want to identify which employees are full-time and which are part-time.



How do I create a new Employee Type?

If you want to create a new Employee Type and have it automatically placed in a Folder:

  • Click on the Folder’s name so that it is highlighted blue.



  • Click  in the top right corner.

If you want to create a new Employee Type and not have it automatically placed in a Folder:

Click  in the top right corner.

In the resulting window:



  • Enter the name of the Employee Type.

  • (**Optional**) Add a description. This description will appear when you hover over the Employee Type when editing or creating a user. This is helpful if you want other User Administrators to understand to what exactly the Employee Type refers before they add it to someone's profile.

  • (**Optional**) Choose an icon (follow the given instructions to find an appropriate icon). This icon will appear next to the Employee Type when editing or creating a user or filtering a list of users. It's helpful for when people are quickly skimming a long list of Employee Types.

  • (**Required only if you chose an icon**) Pick a color for the selected icon.

  • Click  to create the Employee Type.

 


How do I edit an Employee Type?

  • Hover over the Employee Type you want to edit so that it is highlighted blue.



  • Click  to the right of the Employee Type.


In the resulting window, edit the Employee Type's information as detailed above.


How do I delete an Employee Type?

  • Hover over the Employee Type you want to delete so that it is highlighted blue.




  • Click  to the right of the Employee Type.

  • Click  in the resulting window. The deleted Employee Type will be removed from all users. This action cannot be undone.

 

What is a Folder?

Folders are used to categorize your organization's Employee Types. This makes it easier to find the Employee Type you're looking for when editing or creating a user.


How do I create a new Employee Type Folder?

Click  in the top right corner.




In the resulting window:



  • Enter the name of the Folder.

  • (**Optional**) Add a description. This description will appear when you hover over the Folder when editing or creating a user. This is helpful if you want other User Administrators to understand to what exactly the Folder refers.

  • (**Optional**) Choose an icon (follow the given instructions to find an appropriate icon). This icon will appear next to the Folder when editing or creating a user or filtering a list of users. It's helpful for when people are quickly skimming a long list of Employee Types.

  • (**Required only if you chose an icon**) Pick a color for the selected icon.

  • Click  to create the Folder.

 

How do I edit an Employee Type Folder?

  • Click on the Folder in the list of Employee Types so that it is highlighted blue.




  • Click  to the right of the Folder.


In the resulting window, edit the Folder as detailed above.

 

How do I delete an Employee Type Folder?

  • Make sure that the Folder is emptied of all Employee Types and Folders. If it does hold Employee Types or Folders, you will need to move or delete them before proceeding.

  • Hover over it in the list of Employee Types so that it is highlighted blue.




  • Click  to the right of the Folder.

  • Click  in the resulting window. This action cannot be undone.

 

How can the Employee Type list be organized?

Employee Types can be nested in Folders. They can also be arranged in your preferred order relative to each other, as can Folders. The order that you set on the Employee Types page will be reflected on user filters and when editing or creating users.

To move an Employee Type or Folder:



  • Click it so that it is highlighted in dark blue.

  • Drag it across the list to your desired destination which will be highlighted in a lighter blue.

In the above example, the "Full Time" Employee Type is being placed in the "Time commitment" Folder.

To alphabetize the list of Employee Types:

  • Click  in the top right corner.

  • Click This action cannot be undone.
